When I started A Bad Show back in December 2017, I only had aspirations of making content related to Eve Online, and to do so strictly as a hobby. Since then, I’ve had some fans mention that I should start a Patreon. I’m reluctant to go that route, however, because (1) I like working on whatever happens to be currently tickling my fancy, and (2) this is a part-time endeavor; thus, I’m concerned about meeting expectations. Not to mention that I doubt that that many people would be willing to give me money for making Eve PvE videos. However, this has got me wondering whether I could produce content that would be worth monetizing. Thus, while locked out of Abyssal Space due to a bug, I started working on taking my channel in a new direction.
Before continuing, however, I want to thank all my existing viewers for their support. The amount of work I put into my videos is rather daunting, and your support really has kept me motivated enough to keep producing content. Anyway, I don’t plan to completely stop making Eve videos, but you’re probably going to see far fewer of them moving forward. I will try to finish the Of Mice And Alphas – Alpha Ratter video sometime in the next month or two, but I’ll probably stick to videos covering live events after that. I’m sure all 3 of my fans will be disappointed, but hopefully my new content will make up for that.
Alright, so what’s up with the new content?
Well, those who liked my What Is Eve Online? video should dig the new direction, because I’m basically applying that format to other other media I love (i.e. movies, TV, and Games). In other words, curation with jokes. In fact, I already have the first video done, I’m just trying to figure out monetization. And in case you’re wondering what’s the hold-up, I’m trying to do the Amazon Affiliate thing, but I need to make sure that I’m compliant with all of their stuff. Regardless, I should have it all sorted out soon, and hope to have the video posted before the end of May. Oh, and I’ve already made significant progress on the second video as well, so it should follow within a reasonable time frame.
Anyway, my personal goal is to release videos every two weeks, but I won’t be able to make any promises. This is a part-time gig for me, so I can’t devote as much time to it as I would like. However, I’m thinking about sticking with movies for at least a little while, as they don’t require a lot research (basically, I just rewatch the movie and jot down a few notes). I do, however, have ambitions of covering other things. So, we’ll see how it goes.
Oh, I should also point out that I plan to cover stuff that I believe has flown under a lot of people’s radar. My goal is to introduce you guys to content that you might have missed, and not to be another reviewer. So, while I might cover blockbusters from yesteryear, don’t expect videos on the latest Marvel movie, or whatnot.
I’ll probably use this blog for channel updates, and things not worth full fledged videos, but we’ll see what happens. Yeah, and in case it wasn’t readily apparent, I don’t really know what I’m doing. I’m trying to figure it all out as I go.
Finally, I have been reading all your comments and emails (well mostly, as YouTube doesn’t alert me to replies made to other people’s comments). I know I can be a turd about responding, but I really do appreciate it.
Alright, I guess that’s about it. I hope you guys like the new direction, and watch for the first video to get posted in the next couple of days.
